Request Aid

A Professional becomes aware of a Consumer’s emergency need and submits an Application to Good Friends of The First State. Consumers are NOT allowed to make a referral for themselves.

A Professional must confirm that Good Friends of The First State is the last place you look for funds after other resources have been exhausted. Our funds are used for crisis intervention requests.

  • I have a client who needs a bill paid but the bill is not in their name.  Can I apply?
No, as we are a female-based charity, we only distribute funds to women in need. Therefore, all bills would have to be in their name in order to qualify.
  • My client needs help with her rent/mortgage.  Do I need to include a copy of the lease?
Yes, we will need to see a current lease in the woman's name to verify the amount of rent she owes.
  • My client owes more towards a bill than your $1,500 maximum distribution.  Can I still apply for funds?
Yes, you may still apply provided that your client has a payment plan or other plan in place to pay the balance of her debt. Alternatively, we will partner with another charitable organization to contribute towards the bill..
  • My client is unemployed but needs financial help.  Can I apply on her behalf?
Yes, we do help women who are unemployed in certain instances. However, we need to understand the reason she is not working, or cannot work, or if she has a plan to resume work.
  • My client needs money for groceries, or gas, or other expenses that don't have an existing bill to submit.  Do you pay for that?
No, we do not give money directly to any individual. We pay a third party vendor (i.e., a landlord, a utility company, an auto repair shop).
  • My client depleted all their savings and needs to build up a nest egg.  Can I apply for funds from Good Friends of The First Stateas a buffer?
No, we do not provide money towards savings or future possible expenses. We pay for specific expenses only that have already occurred for which your client cannot afford to pay on their own.
  • My client needs home repairs made.  Do you pay for that?
This is on a case by case basis, but the client must own the home in order for us to pay for any home improvements.
  • My client supplied a statement that is 2 months old.  Is this acceptable documentation?
No. Documentation must be current and as close to the date of the request as possible.
  • Should I include paystubs or a drivers license?
No. We do not require proof of earnings or identification.
  • Why do you require a Social Security Number (SSN)?
The SSN is identification unique to every individual and allows us to insure 1 distribution to a person within a 12 month period.
